The highest point on the southern Oregon coast, a great place to park your car and look out over the ocean, but a 3-mile hike (round trip) will take you down to the beach and back too. Alternately, you can park at the Meyers Creek Beach viewpoint farther south on Highway 101, then hike up the beach to the bottom of the trail and up to the top of the cape

Our active local port is home to both recreational and commercial fisheries.
There are also a couple of campgrounds, a boardwalk, and a variety of shops
During World War II, in November 1942, the Japanese dropped bombs on Wheeler Ridge in hopes of igniting a massive forest fire.
It might have worked but their timing was bad ( November is usually our rainy season).
You can visit the site and hike the trail there

Here you can get a great feel for the Chetco River. You are able to drive down on the river
bar but use caution during the rainy season as the river levels can rise significantly.
There is also a campground, picnic area and restrooms here.

Chetco Point Park is walking distance from the apartment and a nice place to catch the sunset.

The most well-known of our local beaches. It's a great spot for day use or camping
During the winter and spring you can sometimes catch the migrating Orca and Grey Whales.
Located four and a half miles north of Brookings, Lone Ranch Beach is
a great place for tide pools on a low tide. This beach is north of town and a little quieter than some of the others.
Lots of picnic benches and a long stretch of beach to walk along

This is our main local city park.
It's a great place to stroll around. In the summer there is an outdoor concert series on Sunday afternoons.

Floras Lake/Boice Cope County Park
This is a long time favorite spot for our family to go camping, windsurfing, biking, agate hunting

There is also windsurfing and kiting school. The Bradys are super nice and lots of fun.
They welcome everyone to their place and also rent boards, wetsuits, kiting gear, SUPs.

Escape Hatch Sports

This little shop is just a few blocks from you.
They rent wetsuits and surfboards.
They have clothing and sports equipment.
They also do bike repair.
The entrance is a little odd. When the city expanded railroad they closed off what used to be the front entrance so the entrance is now on the back side on Hemlock St.

If you want to try some local surf South Beach in Crescent City is a protected sandy bottom break that is a little more forgiving than a lot of the surf breaks around here.
